Editorial Services

I do some editorial work, typically people who read my craft articles and like how I think about things.

Query OR (note not “and”) first 10 pages reviews: These are $50 dollars and include both line editing and an overall editorial letter. My letters/ comments are very detailed. (My last three query reviews had edit letters that were 1,600; 1,600, and 1,300 words— this does not include any commentary in Track Changes in the documents themselves). Reviews include addressing any specific questions/ problems you have, and helping with comps and bio material. You can get two rounds of edits for $75.

Consulting is $100 an hour and can be a conversation about whatever you want, talking through plot problems, advice on submission strategies, questions about the industry, book coaching etc.

Developmental editing: $1,000 per 100 pages. You can stop after the first 100, but I don’t do that “editing for free to see if you like me” thing— I don’t believe in working for free and don’t need the work that badly. My abilities in craft are apparent in this Substack. If you want to try me out, you can do a first 10 pages review. Developmental edits can be on complete books or works in progress: they can be on books that you don’t understand why you couldn’t get an agent on them, books that you wrote 2/3rd of and got stuck, books that you know the middle is sagging. You will get back from me a detailed edit letter in addition to track changes (which includes both line questions and commentary on content.) Please note that developmental editing is not paying someone to tell you your work is good. You will receive honest feedback, kindly worded, but not mincing words. I am only taking on a very limited number of clients for developmental editing (no more than 3 at a time.)
